Q. How can computerised Award Interpretation benefit my business?
A. Increased efficiencies; Automated Award Interpretation ensures all contract rules are
applied correctly ensuring accurate calculation and payment to all staff.
This means managers no longer need to spend time interpreting and applying payroll rules,
giving them more time to focus on core business activity. It also means rules are applied
consistently across the workforce leading to happier more productive staff.
Q. How does Award Interpretation work?
A. In short seamlessly and transparently. Contact Us for a demonstration.
In addition, the Award Interpretation Engine can also be used in roster planning to determine the cost of the shift, day, cost center, department or total roster. When roster costs are combined with budget costs managers are armed with a powerful tool that will enable them to build rosters to a percentage of budget.
Furthermore, by determining roster costs prior to the actual work being performed managers can then be more proactive in managing their staffing costs.
Below are a few “real world” examples to give you a better understanding of how Award Interpretation technology may benefit your business.
|
Meal allowances |
|
Award Interpretation can drive the application of a meal allowance. An examples of this is where
an employee is required to work overtime after a rostered shift a meal allowance is issued after
the completion of one hour of overtime, then a further meal allowance is applied after the completion
of each four hours of overtime until the completion of a shift.
Where an employee is called in to work overtime a meal allowance is issued after the completion
of each four hours of overtime until the completion of the overtime.
|
Shift allowances |
|
Award Interpretation can apply shift allowances based on the time of the shift worked:
Shift 1 at a rate of $1.00 per hour where an employee works between 20:00 hrs and 22:00 hrs
Shift 2 at a rate of $1.50 per hour where an employee works between 22:00 hrs and 00:00 hrs
Shift 3 at a rate of $2.00 per hour where an employee works between 00:00 hrs and 06:00 hrs
|
Application of overtime rates |
|
Depending on the Staff members award, Award interpretation can control the application of overtime;
For example, if an employee is rostered to work an ordinary shift no overtime rates shall be applied until the completion of 8 ordinary hours.
After the completion of 8 ordinary hours the first three hours of overtime shall be paid at time and one half.
After the completion of 3 hours of time and one half all additional overtime shall be paid at double time until the end of the shift.
|
Special allowance |
|
Award Interpretation can drive special allowances with complex rules such as; any employee who does not
receive a 10 hour break between rostered shifts shall be paid an allowance of 33% of their ordinary rate.
This allowance shall be paid for all hours worked until the employee completes their next 10 hour break.
|
Daily entitlement triggers |
|
Award Interpretation can be used to trigger if certain conditions are met. An example of this is
used in determining certain holiday entitlements where an employee has a certain type of holiday
on a Monday, they must have worked at least five of the last eight Mondays to trigger an additional
entitlement for the holiday.
